The impact of Paloma Picassos work is
seen on present and future trends. Today, the color of gold is tremendously
popular. Paloma used this color when she first started designing for Tiffany’s,
but as the years went on gold began to drift from runways. (Style.com). Now, it
is back, and fashion designers all over the world are incorporating the colors
into their designs. With thanks to Paloma for beginning the color trend in
jewelry, this style will last far into the future of jewelry designs. Another
trend that Paloma truly loved was that of big, bold chunks of stones, or
pendants on the neck. Some of her pieces would have multiple large stones that
would be streamed together as a necklace. (Style.com). She has influenced many
other jewelry designers, primarily those who create replicas of her work.
Amazon, Bluefly, and other Internet sites take the work of Palomas and
replicate it to sell. Her work is very pricey, so this gives these other
designers opportunity to hit a market of consumers that know Paloma work but
cannot afford the actual piece. The lasting silhouette of Paloma designs is the
signature X that is trademarked as a piece of Paloma Picasso jewelry. Another
is the squiggle design she often incorporates over specific jewelry pieces. I
personally own a lot of gold jewelry, as well as big, chunky pieces. Before researching
Paloma, I had no idea that this look was inspired by her. I have always been a
lover of Tiffany & Co., so now being
educated on this amazing line of jewelry for the company, and knowing the history
of the designer, I have a greater appreciation for my possible piece.
